Ear Training with Pipe Insulation and Tape

Step 1

Pipe insulation cut to create right and left ear.
Skin bond, sports tape, duct tape.
Get Allegro Medical Skin Bond:
Bonding cement #554536
Uni-solve remover # 177428

Step 1a

Swab ear canal with either alcohol, peroxide or vinegar and allow to dry.

Step 2

Apply skin bond to outer curve of pipe insulation foam -
allow to dry to tacky about 3-5 minutes.

Step 3

Apply skin bond to inner ear from obvious wrinkle above ear canal
to tip of ear, allow to become tacky.

Step 4

Carefully adhere glue side of form to the ear just above the wrinkle,
pulling ear slightly as the form is applied to the top of the ear.

Step 5

Don't worry about the form being the perfect size to start with.

Step 6

Carefully trim off the excess foam without cutting the ear.

Step 7

Should be even to the top with the ear attached to the form at the
bottom and not wrinkled.

Step 8

Shows the seating of the foam inside the bell of the ear.

Step 9

Second ear is repeated as first.

Step 10

Be sure to pull the bell (the outer part of the bottom)
of the ear so that it lays flatly glued to the form.

Step 11

Allow the pups ears to dry while you cut your tape.

Step 12

Cut two pieces of tape this length (half width of duct tape or
sports tape or medical tape).

Step 13

Cut two pieces of tape to this length (half width of duct tape,
or sports tape, or medical tape).

Step 14

Apply therapeutic sauve to this area so the tape will not stick to the skin.

Step 15

Our choice is triple antibiotic ointment.

Step 16

Apply the 14-inch piece as shown.

Step 17

Without stretching the tape continue to apply it as shown.

Step 18

At this stage it should appear as loose as in the photo.

Step 19

The last of the tape should snug it up a little.

Step 20

Using your fingers, press the tape snuggly to the ear. This method
should prevent the tape from being too constricting anywhere
on the ear.

Step 21

Same procedure for the second ear, remember to wind from the ear
towards the skull for each ear.

Step 22

Remember to keep it loose.

Step 23

Press gently to flatten tape to ear, making this become a firmer
support for the base.

Step 24

Holding one shorter piece, position ear as shown.

Step 25

Attach one end of shorter piece going towards the back of the ear
and attach second shorter piece to first, this time aiming
towards the front.

Step 26

Shows the two pieces as you start this last technique.

Step 27

It should look like this.

Step 28

As you approach the second ear, check to make sure the ears are
where you want them to be standing.

Step 29

Come around the second ear as shown.

Step 30

Leave the ends unattached, we'll get back to them soon.

Step 31

Apply a small piece of tape over the top of the brace.

Step 32

Adjust the positioning of both ears by loosening or tightening the
tape on the second ear. Snug tape when ears are in good position.
