One Giant Schnauzer Puppy, Two Giant Schnauzer Puppies

Many people may choose to have multiple giant schnauzer puppies in their home at one time, and for a number of different reasons.  Some people may enjoy the company and companionship of more than one Giant. Other people may want the giant schnauzer puppies to have a companion when the humans can not be there.  Still others simply may not be able to choose between the pups when obtaining a new family member, finding themselves with two or three giant schnauzer puppies on the ride back home.  Whatever the reason, the owners of giant schnauzer puppies must realize that there are unique considerations to take into account when adding more than one dog to your home.

Giant schnauzer puppies require time from, and activity with, the owner.  Adding multiple Giants to your home with the thought that they will entertain themselves and that you will not have to spend as much time with the Giants is wrong on a number of levels.  In this situation, the giant schnauzer puppies will likely form a pack in your home.  The bond between the dogs may become strong, but the strength of this bond may lead to a weaker bond with their human family members.  This strong bond created between the dogs can also cause anxiety if the giant schnauzer puppies are ever separated for any reason, for example, one of the Giants having to go to the vet.  This is not to say that more than one giant schnauzer puppy in a home is not a good idea, simply that even with multiple Giants, the owner must be prepared to spend time with their new family members.

When the owner does spend time with the giant schnauzer puppies in this situation, it may also be a good idea to spend some time alone with each of the dogs.  This can help to strengthen the bond between owner and Giant.  This individual time with each puppy will teach them to respect you, listen to commands and understand that the "pack" includes not just the giant schnauzer puppies, but also the human family members as well.  The owner of multiple giant schnauzer puppies must be willing to provide a little extra time for group activities as well as individual activities with the puppies.

Along the same lines, it may also be a good idea to have separate food dishes, leashes and water bowls.  This can be a good idea for homes with multiple giant schnauzer puppies for a number of reasons.  First, separate food and water dishes allow you to monitor food and water intake of each puppy while also avoiding issues of hoarding, or guarding food.  If you will be training your giant schnauzer puppies, individual leashes will help the puppies to associate the leash with training, and discern play time from training time.

As I giant schnauzer breeder, I know how rewarding it can be to have a home with multiple giant schnauzer puppies.  If you are willing and able to share your time raising more than one Giant at a time, you will be rewarded with laughs, love and fun.
