CH Hatten's Just Call Me Henri

"Henri"

She has both beauty and wonderful movement, but I think Henri's superior attraction is her comical personality. Life is a joy to her. She delights in new experiences and does everything with refreshing zest and grace. If she passes on to her puppies even half of her zest for life, the world will be a merrier place.

Update:

Hi Julie,

My name is Lori Balough and would like to make a donation to your Giant Schnauzer rescue organization. This donation is on behalf of Nancy Nier Prince and my recently adopted Giant, Henri.

Recently, I adopted five-year-old female Giant, Henri, from Nancy Nier Prince at Fanta C Giant Schnauzers in Bedford, IN. This adoption was pure serendipity as I was not officially on the hunt for a Giant until three days prior to phoning Nancy. A friend had called about a local ad for a Giant, which motivated me to look for a local breeder. Up until late 2006, I had lived in Northern California and had been an adopter of dogs from Skansen Kennel.

When I first spoke to Nancy, I inquired about adopting a former breeder female. This is a program of Skansen's Kennel that I utilized to adopt my Standard female, Zoe. I was quite pleased with being able to adopt Zoe (she is a special needs girl), so I contacted Nancy to see if she had a similar program. Nancy thought about my question for a few moments and then said that she had a girl she'd like to have adopted, Charlie Sue. The ensuing days included hour-long phone calls detailing my diet for my pack of four Schnauzers (two Standards and two Miniatures). I immediately liked Nancy and was very much looking forward to meeting both she and Charlie Sue.

On the day of our visit, I rang Nancy upon departing as we were running behind. Nancy was receptive and asked if I'd like to see another female who had not been picked up by her intended parents the day before. I agreed and we set off for Indiana. Upon arrival, I was smitten with both Henri and Charlie Sue. After a bit of observation, I noticed the similarities between Henri and my Standard, Finn. Both dogs are happy-go-lucky and very easy going. I had a strong instinct that Henri would fit better into my pack than Charlie Sue. This realization was not an easy one as I had quickly picked up on how much Nancy wanted to find a nice retirement home for Charlie Sue. Nancy and I both teared up as I explained the reasons why I would prefer to take only Henri. But, as a responsible, loving breeder, Nancy didn't want to deny Henri a loving forever home. So, she agreed.

So, after a bit of paper work (and giving Charlie Sue the toy that was meant to be hers), I took Henri home. The entire transaction felt too good to be true. Henri is a beautiful, calm girl. She transitioned into my pack as anticipated and is embarking on a gentle take-over of the alpha position. I don't think I could love her any more than I already do. Henri now has a .3 acre fenced-in yard, four new pack mates, and a daily menu of human-grade meat and organic veggies.

The reason I am donating to your organization, is because Nancy requested it when I offered to pay her for Henri. I am so happy to do this as meeting Nancy (and getting Henri) were such gifts for me. Nancy has renewed my faith in the kindness of breeders.

So, on behalf of Nancy Nier Prince and Henri, I would like to donate ****  to your rescue organization. Please identify the party to be designated on the check, along with an address. I will send the money (via Bank of America) as soon as I get your reply.

Best,

Lori Balough
